Ooma’s AI Answering Service and AI Receptionist sound similar, but Ooma describes different jobs and includes different monthly minute allowances. If you are comparing Ooma AI prices, the key question is whether calls mainly need a greeting, answers and message capture—or whether the system must also book appointments, send follow-up texts and route more involved requests.
Reviewed 7 October 2026. Ooma’s published add-on prices and plan details can change. Its AI Receptionist is described as beta in the launch announcement, so confirm availability and current terms for your account.
Ooma’s two AI call products at a glance
- AI Answering Service: starts at $14.99 per license per month and includes 40 minutes. Ooma describes it as answering calls, greeting customers, providing company information, answering FAQs and capturing caller details such as contact information, reason for calling, urgency and callback preference.
- AI Receptionist: starts at $49.99 per license per month and includes 100 minutes. Ooma describes it as a virtual front desk that can answer more complex enquiries, route calls, book appointments, send SMS follow-ups and offer multiple voice options.
These are the starting prices in Ooma’s Ooma AI launch announcement. Ooma’s current AI Suite page continues to position both as add-ons to Ooma Office plans.
What the add-on price does—and does not—tell you
The headline price is not the whole phone bill. Ooma Office’s published plan page lists Essentials at $19.95 per user per month, Pro at $24.95 and Pro Plus at $29.95. The AI add-ons are listed separately as available across those plans. For one user on Essentials, the starting subtotal is therefore $34.94 per month with AI Answering Service or $69.94 with AI Receptionist, before tax, additional usage, hardware or other account charges. That is a simple addition of the current listed prices, not an Ooma quote.
Existing Ooma Office customers should treat the add-on amount as incremental to their current account. New customers should compare the cost of the required phone-system seats as well as the AI license. Also distinguish Ooma’s traditional “Virtual Receptionist” feature, listed with Essentials, from the newer AI Receptionist add-on. The similar names refer to different product capabilities.
Ooma’s announcement says additional usage tiers are available, but the public announcement does not provide the overage rate. It also notes that the typical AI Answering Service interaction averages about two minutes based on Ooma usage data. At that illustrative duration, 40 minutes represents roughly 20 average-length interactions, and 100 minutes roughly 50. Actual calls vary, and those estimates are not a guaranteed monthly call count.
Which Ooma product fits your call flow?
Choose the Answering Service when the main outcome is dependable coverage: greet the caller, answer a bounded set of questions, collect the details and pass a clear message to a person. It is the lower starting price and smaller allowance. It suits teams that want a first layer of call handling but still expect staff to complete most bookings and follow-ups.
Consider the AI Receptionist when calls should lead directly to an action: a calendar appointment, a routed request or a text follow-up. Its higher included minutes and broader task list may fit a business that needs more than message capture. Before buying, test the exact calendar, routing and SMS behavior you need; a product description does not establish that every integration or edge case is included in every configuration.
Questions to ask before enabling either add-on
- What happens when the 40- or 100-minute allowance is used up, and what is the current overage price?
- Are minutes measured per call, per second or with a minimum billing increment?
- Does an unanswered call, transfer, voicemail or caller hang-up consume minutes?
- Can the agent use your calendar and send appointment confirmations for your specific plan?
- How does the system transfer a caller to a person, and what caller context is passed along?
- Which Ooma Office seats, taxes, phone numbers or other fees are additional?
Get the answers in writing and run a small test with representative calls before routing your main business number. Sysevo’s voice agent overview and scheduling workflows show the types of call outcomes and calendar actions a buyer can evaluate across systems.
